Red alert
On Friday, the temperature in Bathinda reached 46 degrees, the highest in the state. The weather department has issued a red alert for severe heat wave in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Muktsar and Bathinda districts.
People died
The heat conditions are now at dangerous levels. Two people have died due to extreme heat in Punjab. A 35-year-old man in Pathankot suddenly fainted and died after some time. Similarly, a 55-year-old man in Moga also fell unconscious and succumbed to his injuries. Both the bodies have been kept in the hospital by the police, although they have not been identified yet. Four people have lost their lives due to heat in the current season so far, with two deaths already reported on Wednesday.
Temperatures
Temperatures are quite high in Punjab at the moment. Amritsar’s maximum temperature reached 43.6 degrees, while Ludhiana recorded 43 and Faridkot 44 degrees. Pathankot also features in this list with 42.5 degrees. Patiala (39.2 degrees), Ferozepur (42.6 degrees) and Jalandhar (41.5 degrees) also experienced high heat levels.
There was not much relief in the temperature even at night. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 30.8 degrees. Ludhiana recorded 31, Patiala 31.5, Bathinda 30, Faridkot 31.2, Ferozepur 30.9 and Jalandhar 30.7 degrees. According to these figures, the effect of heat remains in the entire region, which may also affect businesses and daily activities.
The state’s temperature has seen significant changes recently. The maximum temperature dropped by 1.3 degrees, yet it remained 2.9 degrees above average. Talking about the minimum temperature, it recorded an increase of 0.9 degrees, which is 4.9 degrees above normal. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Pathankot with 28.3 degrees. These figures are important for those who keep a close watch on weather trends.
Alert
There is a possibility of change in weather in Punjab from Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the effect of Western Disturbance, strong dusty winds (40 to 50 km per hour) may blow in the state and it may also rain. During this period, the temperature is likely to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. For the next four days, this fluctuation in the weather may also affect business activities, so the concerned parties are advised to be prepared.
