What did India get from PM Modi’s 2-day visit to Japan?
On Saturday, on the second day of his Japan visit, Prime Minister Modi reached Sendai in Miyagi province, where he inspected the advanced bullet train E10. During this, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba was also present with him. Both the leaders traveled in the bullet train and interacted with the Indian train drivers who are being specially trained by Japan’s Eastern Railway. These drivers will operate the bullet trains to be started in India in future, which is an important example of bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi gave his Japanese counterpart a gift set of special Ramen Bowls with Chopsticks made of moonstone and silver from Andhra Pradesh. Also, Prime Minister Ishiba’s wife, Yoshiko Ishiba was presented with a pashmina shawl, which reflects the uniqueness of Indian culture.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Modi attended the 15th India-Japan Summit. During this, 150 agreements were signed between the two countries. The Japanese Prime Minister assured an investment of Rs 6 lakh crore in India in the next 10 years, which is an important indicator for bilateral economic relations.
After the Japan visit, Prime Minister Modi left for China, where he will participate in the SCO Summit on Sunday. He will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in this summit, which is considered important in terms of global diplomacy and economic partnership.
United Nations Security Council
India and Japan have stressed the need for early reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Both countries have also made clear their support for each other’s permanent membership. This announcement was made during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan. Now Modi is going to visit China after Japan, in such a situation this joint demand becomes strategically important. It is worth noting that China has been constantly opposing the reform of UNSC and the membership of India-Japan. Also, behind the scenes, America also opposes any such situation, due to which other countries can gain veto power. Overall, this development is very important in the context of global power balance.
Semiconductor
On the second day of their Japan visit, Prime Minister Modi and Ishiba visited a semiconductor factory – Tokyo Electron Miyagi Ltd. – located in Sendai, 300 km from Tokyo. The two leaders reached Sendai by bullet train, where locals gave a grand welcome to Prime Minister Modi on his arrival.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the visit to TEL Miyagi underlined the shared vision of developing a robust, resilient and reliable semiconductor supply chain between India and Japan. It is worth noting that TEL Miyagi, a leading semiconductor company, is planning to collaborate with India.
Prime Minister Modi said, “The semiconductor sector is a key area of India-Japan cooperation. In the last few years, India has made many progress in this sector. A lot of young people are also joining it.”

ISRO-JAXA collaboration in Chandrayaan Five mission
The Prime Minister said, ‘I am happy that India and Japan are joining hands for the next mission of the Chandrayaan series i.e. LUPEX (Lunar Polar Exploration). This mission will further deepen our understanding of the permanent shadow areas on the south pole of the Moon.’ Chandrayaan-5 is the fifth mission of the Chandrayaan series, also known as LUPEX. This joint mission of ISRO and JAXA will be launched in the year 2027-28 from Japan’s H3 rocket. This mission will include JAXA’s rover and ISRO’s lander, which will search and analyze water-ice in the south polar region of the Moon.
