GST Council Meeting: Everyday Items to Get Cheaper Soon

This time the 56th meeting of the GST Council has really created a stir. Before Diwali, the government has announced a big relief for the general public, small shopkeepers and farmers. The GST slabs, which were a headache earlier, have now been reduced to just two – 5 percent and 18 percent.

Now there is good news for tractor owners too. GST on some parts of tractor has been reduced from 18% to just 5%. And the tractor itself was earlier taxed at 12%, now it is directly 5%—farmers are in for a treat. Nirmala Sitharaman gave all these updates after the meeting. Overall, this time the government has given full relief.

Now GST will not be levied on these things! Yes, you heard it right. Nirmala Sitharaman herself told that earlier GST was levied on these things from 5 to 18%, now it is zero. The list of those things is as follows

  • Ready to eat roti
  • Ready to eat paratha
  • All types of bread
  • Pizza
  • Paneer
  • UHT milk (long life milk, no longer expensive)
  • Chhena (make rasgulla, eat it)

Medical Sector

This time the government has done some very good work regarding medicines and health insurance – now the common man will get direct benefit. Many essential medicines have now been made tax-free, yes, now GST will not be levied on them. And health-life insurance policies have also been kept out of GST.

In the council meeting, the entire GST has been removed from 33 such life saving medicines, which were earlier bearing 12% tax. Now think, getting treatment will be a little lighter on the pocket.

Taxes on everyday items have been reduced

Not only medicines, tax has been reduced on many other everyday items as well. Tooth powder,

milk bottles

Kitchen utensils

Umbrellas

Bicycles

Bamboo

Furniture and combs etc. will now be taxed at only 5%, earlier it was 12%. And if we talk about beauty products, shampoo, talcum powder, toothpaste, toothbrush, face powder, soap, hair oil-the tax on all these has been reduced from 18% to 5%.

Meaning, there is some relief—at least now the GST will not hit us so hard. At least something good has happened!

Educational goods will be tax free, a big relief for students

Now your pocket will not be lighter on purchasing study material, thanks to the government! From children to teachers, everyone is happy – because now

  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Cutters
  • Notebooks
  • Globes
  • Maps
  • Practice books

Graph books… all these things have become GST free. Earlier there was tax on these, now there is a direct exemption. Buying school material will now become a little easier and cheaper
